Luxor is nestled on the banks of the Nile, lying 420 miles south of Cairo and often called the worlds greatest open-air museum. Luxor is divided into three regions: The city of Luxor, located on the east side of the Nile, where you will find The Temple of Luxor opposite the entrance is the stunning statue of Ramses II plus a large granite obelisk whose twin stands in pride of place in Paris' Place de la Concorde. Across the Nile on the West bank, is the Valley of the Kings where you will find over 60 tombs, chambers and halls with the most famous being the tomb of Tutankhamun and the Valley of the Queens, home to the temple of Hatshepsut and the massive colossi of Memnon. The final area is the town Karnak located in the north.
