Dusseldorf overview

Dusseldorf is one of the nicest cities in Germany. It’s a pretty and elegant modern city on the banks of the River Rhine. Düsseldorf is a city where everything is close together. Take a stroll along the well-known shopping street Königsallee where designer shops such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton are next to lovely florists with modern and unusual floral displays on show. Take a look at the big department stores, where you can buy everything and anything, stop for a coffee and the obligatory cake and then find yourself in the Altstadt, the old quarter of the city. With its 260 pubs and home-brew taverns you will understand how it got its name as “the longest bar in the world”. Most of the pubs have tables and chairs outside and the beer is bought to you. You can enjoy a snack of bratwurst and bread or have a full meal while you sit and watch the world go by.
The Altstadt has taken back its traditional place by the Rhine; no longer do you have to worry about traffic as it now races along the new underground bypass. You can stroll along the Rhine embankment promenade and admire the view over the Rhine and the art nouveau facades of Oberkassel. Tired of walking take a boat trip from the pier you can just do a city tour for an hour or two or go by river to Bonn or Cologne.
Dusseldorf is easy to get to there are flights daily from Birmingham, and there are the regular 5 star hotels down to traditional small bed and breakfast houses.
If you love shopping, eating and drinking Dusseldorf must be the next city break for you.
