Today you’ll depart on your scheduled flight to Bari. Your Apulian holiday starts with a three-night stay in the little village of Selva di Fasano. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available on arrival at your hotel.
Olive groves, enticing beaches, lush green forests and pretty historic towns are characteristic of this unspoilt area of Italy. You’ll journey across the region and explore the area’s gems in the company of your Tour Manager.
Day 2: Alberobello and Locorotondo
Today we include a three-quarter-day excursion to the picturesque towns of Alberobello and Locorotondo. In Alberobello you will have the chance to take a stroll through the pretty streets and maybe step inside one of the trulli houses –traditional whitewashed buildings topped with conical-shaped roofs, unique to the area. We’ll then continue on to the hilltop town of Locorotondo, a charming town renowned for its wine production. You will finish your excursion with a visit to an olive press, where you will learn more about this Apulian speciality.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Perhaps enjoy the facilities at your hotel or take the opportunity to get to know Selva di Fasano.
Day 3: Lecce and Otranto
After breakfast this morning join our included full-day excursion to Lecce and Otranto which includes a walking tour with a Local Guide. Lecce is a magnificent town known for its rich baroque architecture and the Roman ruins of the grand amphitheatre, which dates back to 200AD. The town is often referred to as the Florence of the south, why not take a seat in one of Lecce’s beautiful piazzas and watch the world go by.
At Otranto you’ll hear tales of Crusaders, pilgrims and traders as this was once a thriving port and the last of the Byzantine towns to fall to the Normans. Explore the cathedral and climb the turrets of the 15th century castle.
Day 4: Selva di Fasano/Vieste
This morning you’ll leave Selva di Fasano and head north through the Apulian landscape which is peppered with olive groves, vineyards and quaint whitewashed villages. On the approach to Vieste the route takes you along the coastline offering dramatic views over the Adriatic Sea.
Once in Vieste you’ll have time to familiarise yourself with your hotel and freshen up before dinner this evening. You will stay in Vieste for the following four nights of your holiday.
*One evening you will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant to savour some of the area’s specialities.
Day 5: Vieste
Today you are free to relax and enjoy the wonderful facilities at your hotel. Alternatively, join our optional boat trip, which offers you the chance to admire the beautiful Gargano peninsula from the sea. From a unique perspective, aboard your boat, admire the white villages perched on cliff tops, drift into secluded coves and visit the grottoes and beaches along the dramatic coastline on this gentle cruise.
Day 6: Vieste & Peschici
Today we include a full-day tour of Vieste and nearby Peschici. In Vieste join us as we explore the narrow streets, admire the ancient architecture and the small and charming cathedral. Later you’ll visit Peschici, a typical white village criss-crossed by narrow, winding alleyways. Be sure to negotiate the steep stairs down to the harbour where you can enjoy wonderful views out over the bay.
Day 7: Monte Sant’Angelo
Our included excursion today is to the sanctuary of Monte Sant’Angelo. Dedicated to Archangel Saint Michael and visited by pilgrims for centuries, Monte Sant’Angelo is one of the most famous shrines in the Latin West. You will visit the town in the company of your Tour Manager and hear about the legendary appearance of Saint Michael here in AD 490 and see his footprint in the rock.
Day 8: Vieste/UK
Enjoy this morning at leisure, perhaps take the opportunity to enjoy the lovely pool or spa facilities at your hotel.
After an included lunch enjoy an afternoon visit to Trani, whose cathedral is poised above the Adriatic Sea. Stroll along the maze of delightful narrow streets, shops, restaurants and bars in the historic old town before heading to Bari airport for your flight back to the UK.
