Garden Route overview

The spectacular drive along South Africa’s south western coastline between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth is known as the Garden Route and is one of the most beautiful in the world. If travelling between August and November there is every chance you will see the whale migration. En route you will pass Oudtshoorn with its ostrich farms and the limestone of the Cango Caves. On the coastal road between Wilderness and Storms River Gorge there are freshwater lakes, forests and beautiful beaches. The drive from Cape Town to the heart of the Garden Route is approximately five hours or why not travel by luxury train such as the Rovos Rail. A multi-centre holiday of Cape Town, the Garden Route and an Eastern Game reserve is a popular choice of itinerary.
