South America is a vast and remarkable mosaic of climates, landscapes and people. It’s most prominent physical feature is the soaring snow-capped peaks of the Andes mountains, the longest mountain range which extends from Venezuela down to Argentina and Chile.
South America is one of the world’s most mysterious, surreal and exciting destinations. Among the many wonders are the world’s largest river and rainforest, the highest waterfall, driest desert, southernmost town and the highest capital city. Whilst the continent as a whole shares a common history based on its original indigenous populations, European colonization, slavery and immigration, all of the countries also possess their own unique delights and gems.
About two-thirds of South America near the equator or the Tropic of Capricorn, travellers can expect a tropical or subtropical climate all year round. Further south you’ll find the continent very cold between April and October.
